Community Services Block Grant (CSGB) is the agencies’ core federal funding. The CSBG Program provides services to eligible, low-income households. The Program aims to assist individuals in overcoming obstacles that prevent them from being self-sufficient. Eligibility is based on 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.
CSBG offers Direct Services and Case Management Services.
- Direct Services provide assistance with utilities, rental and security deposits, certain types of medicine and eyeglasses for work related purposes.
- Case Management Services is a structured method of accessing client goal(s) through coordinating, monitoring, and offering monetary and non-monetary services. These programs are designed to help clients and households reach self-sufficiency. Monetary assistance may provide support with gas for transportation, energy bills, school related requirements, and rent and mortgage assistance. Non-monetary assistance consist of referrals, trainings, and workshops that improve the quality of life for individuals or households.
Community Action of South Mississippi employs two (2) Licensed Master Social Workers (LMSW); three (3) Licensed Social Workers (LSW); four (4) Bachelor of Social Workers (BSW); and six (6) Case Workers. The employees are committed to the Agency’s mission and vision and are available by appointment.
In 2022, 130 families avoided eviction through CSBG assistance.
